Maputo, 26.05.2024 – Speaking at the Cabo Delgado Parks round table in Maputo on Friday, the president of the Chamber of Mines, Geert Klok, considered the Cabo Delgado Parks initiative to be beneficial for all stakeholders.
At the Cabo Delgado Parks round table, the Minister of Industry and Trade Silvino Moreno and the Provincial Governor Valige Tauabo joined representatives of the extractive industry, as well as other stakeholders, to discuss the topic “Development poles and the contribution of the mineral resources extractive industry to economic stabilization and recovery in Cabo Delgado”.
The President of the Chamber of Mines of Mozambique (CMM) illustrated in his speech, through the example of the manufacture of wooden pallets, how local economic development can benefit all stakeholders. Industrial parks located near anchor industries, such as mines, can create jobs for host communities and opportunities for local entrepreneurs. Mining companies will benefit from the local availability of products and services, thus reducing delivery times and costs. Mozambique as a country will gain from the reduction in imports and the increase in tax revenues.
Klok contrasted this scenario with the fair processing of minerals, which tends to generate relatively few jobs, requires large investments (from abroad) and has high demands in terms of infrastructure and human resources.
The president of CMM expressed the council’s support for the Cabo Delgado Parks initiative, considering it an ideal vehicle for the development of Cabo Delgado and the creation of jobs.
Cabo Delgado Parks is a network of industrial parks in the districts of Montepuez, Balama, Ancuabe and Palma, and a logistics base in Pemba. This network, operated by MozParks, is designed to fulfill three main objectives: accelerate economic development, promote and boost youth employment and develop the green economy.
